Why Rattan Counts as Renewable
Rattan is a climbing palm, not a timber. It matures in a few years and regenerates from the same root system, so a harvest does not end a plant the way felling a tree does.
It is also light, which cuts the carbon cost of moving it, and durable enough that a piece does not need replacing on the cycle cheaper furniture does.
